What's in the fridge?

Sometimes I open the fridge and just stare. There's the yogurt. There's the fruit. A big tub of lettuce. Some lean turkey. A drawer of cheese (that's right an entire drawer). And all those crazy condiments I might never use again but can't bring myself to toss...quite yet. And I think "I'm not hungry for any of those things. I want a cookie." For me the danger zone in the kitchen is usually not the fridge; it's the pantry. Then, if there are no home baked cookies in the house, I make myself a cup of cinnamon tea and tell myself it's a cookie or, this is crazy, I give my kids the cookie and I have them breath on me with cookie breath.
How weird is that? Really.

  1. Smelling cookie breath is a bit weird but if it works for you then that's great. Personally I'd rather be wacky and weird than boring.

What really has me blinking my eyes is your amazingly tidy fridge. Mine is stacked and packed with no room to spare and there is usually only two of us eating from it. I'm buying a second fridge that's all there is to it.

  2. I think if I wanted a cookie and smelled one, I don't know if I could resist. Way to go on the will power. I don't know if this is something that would work for you, but I have a meal plan in my mind everyday, before it even starts. That way, I go to the fridge/cupboard, get what I need, and don't grab extras.

  3. Yeah, that's a little odd. I'm with Alicia, I'll just eat the cookie. But I feel like I stare at my pantry and my fridge everyday thinking that there is nothing I want to eat in it. Then I wander around the house hungry, but finding nothing appealing.... You'd think I'd lose weight (well, before I was pregnant).

  4. Is your fridge really big, or are you running low on food, cause it looks empty! Since this blog began I feel like my fridge is perpetually too full, because of all the fruits and veggies it must house.

The cookie breath thing is totally weird. I love you anyway.

  5. Inquiring minds want to know: Did you clean the fridge (even just a little) for this pic? I, too, am a sucker for the pantry. I feel like the things I pull out of the fridge are for the most part pretty darn healthy!

  6. I didn't clean the fridge. We're running low because I know from experience that when I go on a trip (leaving tomorrow) and leave the kids with their dad, there's no point in having lots of fruits and veggies in there that will go bad.

But the the way the light photographs makes it look emptier than it actually is. That middle yellowy drawer is full of cheese.

  7. Cookie breath...that's hilarious. I stand at my pantry all day...looking for what's not there. If I'm smart I make a protein shake that will satisfy for hours...if I'm not I may not stop eating all day.
