Holy crap, It's working!

So, after one week of the challenge I am feeling SO much better about my level of health. Turns out counting calories is the secret to losing weight (no wonder you get 10 points for that one!) for me. I've always tried to convince myself that exercise was enough because I just didn't want to watch what I ate.

I forgot to weigh myself before breakfast this morning, but I have lost at least 3 pounds in the last week by staying below 2000 calories. In 8 weeks of exercise I fluctuated up and down only a pound and a half. The first day of calorie counting felt like sheer torture, but after a week, it is so much easier to eat healthy! For the first time in a long time, I'm not just eating because I have a taste craving or because it's simply an activity to engage in. I feel hungry again, a sensation I'd become mostly unfamiliar with in the last couple of years. I'm making much better food choices and I've become aware of what a bad example I've been setting for my children. I let them eat WAY too much candy; instead of a special treat, it's an everyday expectation. They've been eating more fruits, veggies and dairy now that I have it in the house.

In addition to losing 3 pounds, I got my haircut and that always makes me feel like a new woman.

What changes have you seen, mentally and physically, after this first week? Let's Rock Week 2!

P.S. I bought some Tilapia fillets this weekend. Anyone know a yummy way to cook them so my kids will eat them?

  1. Sue, that's so exciting! And, dahling, you look gorgeous: new hair, new healthiness, new attitude and all!

I've noticed that I've got more energy. Getting lots more done than usual. And I'm enjoying food and cooking more than I ever have before.

  2. Sue- you took the words right outta my mouth. I was surprised to step on the scale this morning and discover the numbers were lower. I am now a calorie counting convert!

What a super cute picture of you!

  3. That's awesome Sue! It really is working! My pants are fitting better, and it is good for my budget too because now I don't feel like I need to go out an buy new clothes! I can't wait to see our progress in the next two weeks!

  4. Sue, that is an a great picture of you. I can tell that you are feeling great about yourself. I'm glad that you are seeing results. That is a product of having been workingout before and now taking the next step.

I'm not seeing the scale move yet but my pop-over is now turning back into a regular muffin stop mini-muffins.

I think calorie counting is hard for everyone to do but that's when you really see what is happening.

  5. Sue, you are beautiful, love the new your enthusiasm.

  6. That is awesome! Glad it is working. Cute picture too!

  7. That's great Sue! (I started this 2 weeks earlier than everyone, and I've dropped 11 pounds). I'm at a plateau so I need to kick it into high gear! (I did move in one belt hole today though! yay!) Your haircut and pic are very cute!

  8. Missy- So awesome on cinching in the belt!

Thanks for all the compliments on the picture. My hairdresser is also a make-up artist, so I asked her to "fix" me up and take a picture. It had been a long time since I'd taken a nice picture and it was great to feel really pretty for a day. I kept hoping I'd run into people I hadn't seen in a long time. Yes, I'm that vain!

  9. My scale is amazing lower too. I fixed a good meal tonight that even my picky granddaughter loved.
