And The Award For Gross Deliberate Stupidity Goes To -

Yes, this is me, and I deserve it. You informed me, you warned me, it was constantly on my mind, but did I register early like I was supposed to? No, I let that bad thing called PROCRASTINATION win again.

Sadly, I will not be at Thanksgiving Point on Saturday. The race is full, no more participants allowed. It hurts to write this. It really does. I am an idiot. I could crawl in a hole. The stupid things I do to myself are the ones that hurt the most.

But I will be cheering the rest of you on, even if it is within the silence of my own mind while I swim laps on Saturday or maybe I'll run my own 6k here at home and post a story about that.

I'm sorry I won't be there. I'm very embarrassed.

Love, Becky

  1. Becky, don't be so hard on yourself! There are plenty more races to choose from and now that you are in such good shape, you will have fun choosing them. I am so impressed that you've choosen a very positive activity to do in it's replacement.

  2. You don't have a corner on procrastination, it could be my middle name. Just sign up early when you pick your next race and there will be a next race!

  3. Oh Becky, I'm sorry. That sneaky procrastination has thwarted me on several occasions. There will be more races, but I understand that you're disappointed.

  4. Such a bummer! I wanted to do it too but my daughter is racing in regions in the morning. We can cheer them on together :) Seriously, DO run your own race and look for another one you can sign up for right now! There are some on Halloween I know that are a lot of fun! NO WORRIES :)

  5. Intelligence and procrastination are not related, not even distant long lost relatives. So, Becky, know that you are intelligent and thoughtful, just too busy to keep all those balls up in the air all the time.

Now you've learned (or relearned) one of life's great lessons: the early bird gets the worm. I know, I know. Not the most appetizing analogy.

  6. Don't beat yourself up. You need to just use it as a learning experience. We've all been there. Only, yours can be remedied and sometimes the thing can not be replaced. Your mind will believe WHATEVER YOU TELL IT SO tALK NICE TO YOURSELF. A good book is ..WHAT DO YOU SAY WHEN YOU TALK TO YOURSELF. Try to be positive, look forward not back, The past does not equal the future. Look at all the good things you are doing...you broke 200 and look at how disciplined you have been, look at how many times you are winning the challenge etc, etc, etc You are a GOOD person. Don't sabotague yourself with negative talk.
Enough of my lecture. Find another run to do. And "Look to the sun and the shadows will all fall behind."

  7. Oh man Becky, I hope you are feeling better now. That just stinks. I love it that you are still going to do some form of exercise. I think that's exactly what you should do. I vote for running your own 6k. And time yourself too. Maybe you could try to find another one in about a month and see how you improve. I think you are amazing...and I hope to meet you someday.

  8. Ok, I hope that you've let this go and are now thinking of the great things you are going to do tomorrow.

So here is the tough question. Why did you procrastinate? Was it fear? Did you thing you wouldn't be ready? Or was it really that you thought you could wait till the last minute and life gets crazy?

I'm only asking because you are a strong woman. I've signed up for things before (like my duathalon next weekend) early purely because it's cheaper. But it also makes me motivated and encourages me to step outside my comfort zone and do hard things.

YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!!! I'm not feeling super prepared for this duathalon but I'm going to do it. I know you won't let this happen again, even if it is fear that's holding you back.

    Love YOU!!!
