Have you guys seen these shoes? I am a bit interested. Here I am researching "barefoot running" and thinking to my self, "this is crazy"! Aren't they so strange looking?

But I am so intrigued! I have been a runner for 15 years. It makes me so happy to run, but in those 15 years I have never found a pair of running shoes that make me feel like I am running on air. One pair gave me a stress fracture in college. One pair hurt my hip. Another gave me pains in my left knee.

About 8 years ago I discovered the little specialty running stores where you go and get your foot and gait analyzed and they fit you for the correct shoe. I love, love, love, getting new running shoes, but still they never feel quite right. Well, my poor running shoes are due to retire this month and I need to find a replacement.

Have you heard anything about these? They are getting great reviews!
I just might have to give them a try. The idea of running almost barefoot sounds so wonderful to me...like being 5 again without a care in the world.

  1. These are the most interesting shoes I have ever seen. I would love them. I love to be barefoot and hate wearing shoes when I workout. If you try them let us know how you like them. So interesting!

  2. I love the look of those shoes. I saw them the last time I was at the running store. My mom has the next level up to those. Not quite the barefoot feel, but pretty close. She isn't a fan of them. She says they hurt her heel, but it doesn't mean you won't like them. Have you ever read Born to Run? It's wear the whole bear foot running idea came into play. It's a really good book, and if you are a runner, it's one that you would really appreciate!

  3. I think they're cool looking. If I were a runner, I'd want to try them out. They remind me of heavy duty chemical gloves.

  4. When I first looked at the picture I was thinking, "Wow, Marci really needs to shave." ;) They look really sweaty to me and I would worry about stepping on sharp objects. But I'm wimpy like that.

  5. Sue, you crack me up. I stole the picture from some guys review of these. I never know if I need to give credit. Anyway, I really do need to shave though.

  6. We have a friend who runs barefoot here in Colorado. I admit, I'm totally curious! I may have to try it, though not today because it's SNOWING!

  7. At first I thought they were socks with some sort of rubberized grip on them...and I still kind think they look like that. I'm with Sue. Sweaty. Eww. But if you try them, let us know, I have a friend who runs 10 miles a day and she's always replacing shoes.

  8. I just saw an add for these in the REI catalog. It suggested using them for everything from cross-training to yoga. The didn't specifically say running. I'm not sure I'm on board with the barefoot running idea. It may be better so some people who do not need extra arch support but I'm more concerned about the things that would poke through your foot!

Shannon Whitlock has some. I'll have to ask her what she thinks.
