Guess What?!!!

Maybe I should save this picture for April 1st.

This is what I look like after I eat wheat. I realized I have never taken a picture of myself like this, mostly because it's really uncomfortable, or painful, and I just want to curl up in a little ball and go to sleep. Don't I look pregnant? Maybe 4 or 5 months along? My pants usually have to be undone at this point.

I think I am getting more sensitive. Most nights I am working with wheat flour for some of my family, and gluten free stuff for Jacob and me. There must be some cross contamination going on, because this has been my punishment for the past 3 or 4 nights.

Stinks!!!!!

I guess it gives me even more motivation to stick to fruits, veggies, and lean protein. Once this happens, I'm pretty much done for the night.
I crawl into bed and leave the laundry, tidying, and dishes for the morning when my stretched belly will be gone.

  2. My tummy hurts just looking at your picture Marci, I hope you feel better this morning. Can just cooking with wheat products cause you to blow up like this or must you ingest it?

  4. It has been happening a lot lately, which is not normal. Normal is once a month. Before I went wheat free, it happened every night. It's a huge improvement, but it's been happening every night for the past 3 or 4 nights. I am a little worried that there is some other food that is bothering me now. Queen Vee, I don't know if it is just handling the wheat that's bothering me. I really don't think so, but I also read that you should have specific pots and pans and cooking utensils that you only use for gluten free baking. Maybe I need to be more careful. I only started baking with wheat flour again about 2 months ago.

  5. Have you ever gone and had an extensive allergy workup? Just curious. Maybe it would help identify other foods or substances yor could be sensitive or allergic to.

  6. Poor Marci! I hope you get all this figured out. I thought of you yesterday. I was shopping online at Costco's website for Emergency Preparedness type foods and they have 'Gluten Free' baking products for emergencies. (In #10 cans, etc.) Just wanted to make sure you know about that. Might even be cheaper for every day use. (?) Thinking of you...

  8. Oh Marci, I am so sorry. That is not fun at all. As far as separate pans go, I know my neighbor had specific pans and such for her girls just to make sure there was no cross contamination. She even brought them over for me to use along with her gluten free crepes for a primary party her daughter came to. It might be worth trying, anything is better than feeling ucky. Hope you get to the bottom of this soon.

  9. Missy! I didn't know that about Costco, but you just made my year! I'm going to go order some. Thank so much for the heads up! Thanks for all of the encouragement Girls. I had a much better day today, and if I can get my kitchen cupboards in order, I think I will get some new pans and keep them gluten free. Becky, I was tested for wheat allergy, and that came back neg. She didn't test anything else though, except that I am allergic to oysters and have an epi pen for that. I just met with my allergist last week and we are going to dig into it deeper to see if it is something else. I'll keep you updated.

  10. Marci, thinking about you and hoping that with every little adjustment, those seriously uncomfortable reactions disappear altogether. I know that as I get older my allergies have morphed, some getting altogether worse, to the point where I can't tolerate the allergen at all.

One example: alcohol. I was raised in a Protestant family but was never a big drinker, but now I can't drink at all. I instantly feel poisoned, itchy and uncomfortable. My husband says it's my Mormon roots coming through =-)
