Late Exercising?

How does everyone feel about exercising later at night?  You wonder why I am asking?  Well it seems the older I get the earlier in the evening i need to exercise.  It use to be that I could exercise at 10pm at night and go right to bed afterward.  Now if I exercise past 8pm I am up for several hours and cannot fall asleep.  The only exercise I can do later at night, as long as there are no headstands, is yoga.  Let me know what you all think.

  1. Yep, that's a problem for me too. If I don't get it done in the morning, I'm probably not gonna get it done.

  2. Personally, I prefer exercising in the morning. It helps my mental focus for the rest of the day. But I have found that when I go for a walk after dinner, it helps clear some of the day's junk out of my brain. It's a stress-reliever. That's why I'm sad to see summer go - the evenings will be dark and very cold, and I know I won't feel like walking at night. Maybe I'll have to get myself over to the rec center after dinner sometime. I haven't found yet (I'm 38) that evening exercise increases insomnia, probably because I haven't done it enough to have a good base of comparison. But I do find evening walking relaxing.

  3. My friend and I used to walk late, like 10 or 11 and then I did not find any trouble going to sleep. Now I sleep for a few hours and then I'm awake for a time. crazy. Need the daily physical exercise to help me wind down. It also helps to write down my "to do list" to clear the brain if I want to sleep. I usually walk every morning at 6:30.

  4. I can walk late, but not exercise late. Plus the post exercise boost of energy gets me through the morning. Love that part.

  5. I often exercise after 8:00 p.m. although I prefer getting it done early in the morning. Exercise hangs on me like a super heavy albatross all day when I don't get it done early. If you could lose weight via exercise guilt I would be rail thin.

  6. I exercise at night just because I shower at night, but I have to do it earlier than 8, more like 7, or else I'm awake late as well.

  7. I am a morning exerciser, if I am alone. If I am meeting someone for exercise at night, then I somehow pull it together. If I am needing to get a work out in at night and I am alone in doing it, it never happens. I must be a social evening exerciser. Yup, that's the diagnosis.

  8. I love to exercise in the morning, even if that means that I have to get up before dawn. My days get so full that it's easy to blow it off if I wait until later. The only exception to that is if I have a favorite class or I'm meeting a friend. I however don't have a problem going to sleep after.

  9. Mornings all the way for me too. I wish I could exercise at night but I actually prefer mornings and that is saying a lot because I am NOT a morning person.
