Here's the Skinny

I have to tell you something. Are you ready? Ok, here it goes...

I bought a pair of skinny jeans. I know, isn't that so crazy! I remember the first time I saw them, while looking through the Sunday adds. My thoughts were consumed with how ugly they were. How could anyone wear those? It was like in the 80's, when I used to fold my jeans over themselves at the cuff, and tuck them into my socks. What an awful fashion statement, one I swore to never repeat.

I momentarily forgot that promise last week at the store. As I buttoned the top button in the dressing room, I talked myself into being a little brave. I'm the mother of 4 wonderful kids, and I spend most of my time doing all the duties that come with that. A pair of skinny jeans seemed like the perfect thing to spice up my life. I began to day dream about how cute I would look while scrubbing the toilet, or vacuuming the floors.

The jeans sat in the bag for 4 days while I waited for the perfect opportunity to slip them on and debut them. The day finally came, and as I walked into the room where my family sat, my cute husband just smiled and didn't say a word. I couldn't leave it there, so I probed further. I discovered that he preferred my old ratty jeans much better. I think his reaction to seeing them the first time was the same as mine. Sometimes change is hard for everyone, (wink).

So now I have a pair of skinny jeans. I am not sure if I like them or not. Those of you that know me, know that I don't have skinny jean legs. I have always been "stocky", and I don't mind that one bit. It's just fun sometimes to step out side of our comfort "jeans", and try something different. I'm keeping them. They might grow on me, and my husband. They look weird, but fun at the same time. They might be cute tucked into boots this fall. Who knows, maybe I'll be brave and wear them to the grocery store next time. Maybe I'll even get brave enough to put a picture of them on the blog.

  1. I bet you look fabulous in those skinny jeans.
If your husband is like mine, he has decided some outfits are for the "ladies" He helped me realize sometimes we just dress for other women, for example, the cute flats with flowers... in his opinion only women love these. SO, wear them with CONFIDENCE girl! I am sure he will get used to them :)

  2. Marci, you're funny! I think we should all own some skinny jeans, just because they'll boost our self-image. I have a fushia pair and I feel sassy when I wear them and they are so comfy (there's a little bit of stretch in the denim too).

  3. I'm sure all of you who choose to own a pair of skinny jeans will look absolutely fabulous in them. I'm afraid it's a look I'll have to pass up due to short legs and a more mature age.

  4. First of all, Marci I have never thought of you as "stocky". Quite the opposite actually so I had to chuckle when I read your description of yourself. I bet you look fantastic in your skinny jeans and I can't wait to see a picture ;-)

I just have to tell you I ran into your sister-in-law (Liz?) today at the park. She looks so cute with her little baby bump.

  5. Jill, I think you are quite right in your observation of "ladies" outfits. Sometimes I think certain clothes are so cute, and he thinks the opposite!
And Apis, FUSHIA? I am so impressed! Now I have a new goal for the next time I'm feeling frumpy...fushia skinny jeans. I bet you look amazing in them too!
Queen Vee, I have met you and you don't have short legs at all! In fact, you have the perfect silhouette for skinny jeans...tall and lean. I'm 5'3", and not too lean.
Cammy, I miss you! I wish I could have met you both at the park today. Isn't Liz so cute, she's such a great sister. Thanks for the compliment. Maybe I never recovered from my body in high school when I had 15 more pounds of muscle on me...I am pretty sure I was frightingly stocky. he he.

  6. I have not been brave enough to try on skinny jeans yet. I might have to sneak and try on one of teenage daughters. She just got a gray pair for the first day of school and they look great on her. So Way to Go Marci for branching out and trying something fun and new.

  7. If I put skinny jeans on I would look like two denim ice cream cones supporting a big single scoop.
More power to you, though! I've never met you, but if your legs look half as awesome as your arms do, you have every right in the world to rock the skinny jeans!

  8. Mindy, you made me laugh so hard! I couldn't stop! You have such a way with words. I am sure you would look so hot you would melt that ice cream right off!

  9. This is one of the funniest threads I've read in a long time.

Jill, I quoted you today while looking at shoes with some girlfriends.

    Melissa, Fuchsia? Really? WOW!

Mindy, I just can't stop laughing. My side hurts.

  10. Okay, now I know I'm getting old. I thought "skinny jeans" were jeans the next size down or two that you keep stashed in the back of your closet for when you lose 10 or 15 pounds. You know, "goal" jeans.

Two ice cream cones, indeed! I feel the same way, Mindy. I definitely have a pear-shaped figure, but I've never heard it described quite that way!

I don't know if I will ever be able to "rock" the skinny jeans (i.e. skintight) look. Maybe with a nice big fat tummy tuck if I ever get down to 150 (as if I would ever have money to waste on that.) I couldn't wear a bikini then, even if I didn't have a problem with the lack of coverage. Two things will always prevent that after my five pregnancies: stretch marks and sagging skin that looks like a deflated balloon. Eeechhhh!

But Marci, now you know we're all dying to see you in your skinny jeans!!

  11. I'm sure I could find a pair in my costume box (private joke for Audrey) LOL BUT as for putting them on....I think not. The iced cream cone comment was a great visual...made me laugh . THANKS

  12. I tried to post yesterday, but blogger hates me right now, so I'm posting from Audrey's computer. I have skinny jeans. They are comfy and stretchy. Marci, you go girl! But don't tell my brother - he's got a serious prejudice against skinny jeans. Also, I'm going to hunt down a post from one of my favorite blogs that was on skinny jeans for any figure - so stocky girls, ice cream cone girls and pear shaped girls, watch out! I'm coming for ya!
