Hey Mrs. Thunder Bumper, I want my ten points

Success: The best thing to come out of this is now I am AWARE. Aware of how much I eat. Aware of how healthful certain foods are. Aware of how my intake affects my body. I've always been a moderately healthy eater. I eat my fruits and veggies, and I watch my portions. But being AWARE and informed has changed my perspective on food. Actually, it would be more honest to say it's helping me start to change my perspective on food. I still automatically think of the Easter candy on top of the fridge if I'm feeling stressed, but I won't automatically reach for it as before. In the morning I try to think, "What can I eat that will give me enough energy for the morning and keep me full?" not "What looks yummy?"

Struggle: I cannot remember to take that darn Vitamin! I've tried leaving the bottle on the counter, I've tried taking it first thing in the morning, I've tried asking people to remind me. I cannot seem to make a habit out of it! I'm also struggling to get my workout in. I can't seem to find a time that works everyday, and I'm not one of those people who is willing to wake up at 5:45 to workout before her kids get up. I just don't have that in me. Yet. I think it would help if I could find something I love doing. I've been struggling to find that for years, though.

  1. Mindy, I second this post. Awareness is huge!

Have you tried the Just Dance Wii game? It's basically dancing with your kids. Or think of it as high energy show choir.

For the vitamins, try putting sticky notes in a bunch of places around the house that say "vitamin."

Just so you know, I didn't have that 5:45 a.m. thing in me either...not until this past year when I was struck with a freak bolt of lightning. Weird. =-)

  2. Exercising early in the morning is getting easier and easier. I still have about two mornings a week where I just want to sleep for another two hours. But it's too frustrating trying to get my exercise in after the kids are up (unless I plan a bike ride with the trailer) and I often end up blowing it off if I don't do it early and the weather's too bad to go riding with the kids. Then I just feel crappy about myself all day. A year ago, I would never have gotten up early to exercise. I didn't have it in me then. But now, the stars have aligned and I actually LIKE waking up early. No one is more surprised at that than I am! So I guess what I'm saying is, there's hope, and your time will come.

  3. I used to have trouble with my vitamins until I bought a daily medicine container. You know, the ones you thought only old people use. Well, they are also good for the young and young at heart. Now, it's just a habit when I brush my teeth in the morning. I check to see if the medicine is gone for that day. It also helps me remember if I've forgotten or can't remember if I took it that day.
