Hi! I'm Lori and sometimes in the summer I wear a sweater because I think it hides my upper arm fat and makes me look slimmer.

Kudos to all you for the hard work you are consistently doing.  Your achievements and excitement and your ability to help me realize it's a life style not a diet, has made me want to join you.

I know some of these people on here and hope that someday I will get to know you all.  My best friend is Sue (I stilll call her Susan).  She and Samantha and I lived in Germany together so I'm here through Sam's lovely sil Audrey.

I've always been heavy.  Apparently I didn't look as heavy as I thought I was but was still overweight.  I was at a healthy weight up until about 3rd grade when we moved and I didn't have any friends.  I would eat Suzie Q's.  Like literally a box of them at a time because I was so bored.  I had steadily gained weight since then.  My mom was always critical of me and made comments about how I would have more friends if I lost weight and how I should be more like my sister (who was always thin).  That was tough.  And even though that was a hurtful time in my life I don't blame my mom because she was just working with what she knew from her own childhood.

After two babies I can say I added 60 more pounds to my already heavy frame.

Last summer I joined a weight loss place called Slim Genics.  It worked and I lost a total of 30 pounds by the time I gave up on that.  At the height of my weight loss I felt great!  It was so cool to have all that energy and my body just felt darn good.  But it was expensive to stay on that program.  About the same time I stopped going to Slim Genics I would log onto here and see what the HWHL gals were doing.  I loved reading Susan (Sue's) posts and seeing all the success she had.

I gained about 8 lbs back since I've been off Slim Genics and I  figured it was time to join HWHL and quit lurking.  So here I am.

And I am doing this for me.  Because I LOVE IT when I have energy and my body feels great.

Thanks for letting me jump in!

Lori
PS I have a great husband, Dan, and two beautiful little girls, Grace and Audrey.

PPS I'm not that great at editing.

  2. Lori!! I'm so excited to get to know you. I love seeing new people join and help us all succeed. I wish I could wear sweaters all year long. But enough of that, we are in for the long hall, and soon we will be avoiding the sweaters :)

PS Post a picture pretty please so we have a face with a name!

  4. Sookie, sookie, sookie, sookie, UHH! I'm so glad you finally caved and joined our cult, er, group! I know figuring calories for all those random dishes we all eat will be hard, but hey, Becky's a total math geek and loves to calculate her own recipes, so I bet you could just have her do it for you! (Beck, don't you love how I'm offering your services without your consent?)

I like how you're starting with the mental mindset that this is not a diet. Diets are just so temporary and fleeting, but what everyone is doing here is so much more. It doesn't mean we always make the best choices, but we have each other to encourage and support through this life change.

Are you sure you're wearing the sweaters just to hide your arms? "We must, we must, we must increase our bust. The bigger, the better, the tighter the sweater, we must increase our bust!" You're just trying to show off your boobs, aren't you?

  5. P.S. Great pic! Although it totally shoots down my idea that you're trying to show off your boobs. Auddie girl's totally defeating the purpose!

  6. Hi Lori! I almost never post since I became pregnant, but I am a constant peanut gallery. I'm glad to get to know you! And that you can wear sweaters in the summer (with the heat index today it was 109, even though the "real" temperature was 92).

  7. Lori darlin, welcome aboard and so delighted that you have joined this group of fab women. I wear sweaters too to hide my arms and the tire around my middle. I must confess though, that both are shrinking since I joined the challenge.

You have such cute, cute daughters.

I also need an editor but no one has agreed to take me on so you'll just have to put up with my crazy mistakes.

There are no perfect moms, I'm just sorry that yours caused you such pain as a child. It touched my heart to know that you have forgiven your mom and tried to understand where she was coming from, I know she loved you very much.

You sound like so much fun and will be a great addition to this group. Best of luck as you join our challenge and start shedding those sweaters :-).

  9. I'm so glad Sue and the others have finally converted you! I blame (thank) Sue, as well.

Man, oh man, you know what we all need? We need to start plotting some kind of HWHL reunion, maybe next spring, or something, and we can all wear cute outfits and eat junk food, and... oh, oops. For some reason, my inner thirteen-year-old came out. But, seriously, we need a reunion!

I've NEVER been to any of my high school reunions. I graduated in Germany on a military base, and I heard once that those reunions take place somewhere on the east coast. But the main reason I've never gone is that, being a military brat and attending three different high schools in four years, I never really had any BFFs, just people I would say hi to at school.

Anyway, I think it would be a BLAST to all meet sometime in the future. Maybe if we plan it far enough in advance, most of us could get there. Any takers?

  10. Does anyone seriously want an editor? Because I did get a degree in English...

  13. Lori! I'm still laughing at Sue's comment on why you'd want to wear a sweater year round!

I think it's great that you've decided to join. I hope that you're healthy eating and exercise will help you take those 8 lbs back off and keep going. Sounds like you have a great jump start on starting to feel good again.

Funny how you can feel better just by eating good foods.

Bonding point: I shoved Zingers in my gob all through my first pregnancy but my husband didn't know until Jonah as 2...it all made sense why he looked like a Eskimo butter ball!

Jump on girl friend and go go go!

  15. Hi Lori,

I've been lurking this go round, but I'm so glad you've joined us. The more you put into HWHL, the more you get out of it. I've been a bit more relaxed in my approach of late, but plan to go all out and get the ball rolling again soon.

Can't wait to learn from you, laugh with you and lend some support and encouragement!
