Mark me absent

Just want you ladies to know why I've been absent on HWHL of late.

It has to do with part of Sue's post too actually: not being critical of others.

When I'm participating in HWHL de rigeur, my focus tends to be a bit, well, health-related. It becomes a part of my vision, my rose-colored-health glasses, if you will.

Problem is, that vision tends to make me more critical of a certain really wonderful man in my life who is not blessed with my genetics, my vegetable-loving disposition, or the time I have to indulge my weight-lifting/walking proclivities.

I've tried not to be critical, prayed about it and held my tongue, but my mind still goes there and those thoughts seep out of my pores in subtle ways unwillingly.

And it's just not good.

So, although I'm still doing all these good things for myself, I'm not as self-aware about it. And by not deliberately thinking about it, I'm less critical.

And that's good.

A strong marriage is important, don't you think.

  3. Yep, you've got it down! I need to revisit some of the things I feel critical about with my husband, they have more to do with cleaning though...*sigh*.

  4. The morning after I wrote this I had a big fight with Dan and went totally against everything I had just said. Each day we begin with differing levels of patience and charity. The trick is to pray or talk to a confidant or do whatever it takes to get our heads right as quickly as we can to avoid doing permanent damage.

The whole point of this community of women is to help each other learn to be healthy, and you are learning to be emotionally healthy as well as physically healthy. That's just as important!

  5. Melissa, one of the things I admire about you is that you are self-reflective, and then you actually do something to make changes and be a better person. That takes strength of character, humility and hard work. True Christian qualities.

  6. It's amazing how we all go through cycles. We can be so gung-ho about our health, and then other things demand our attention and mental energy, and we don't pay as much attention as we used to. And that's not a bad thing. Life is ever changing, ever flowing in it's ups and downs and areas of focus. We are adaptable, I think one of the good things about being human.
