Darn cake

I just had to do an update on the crazy Vibram shoes. I finally have built up to running 4 miles...today! Yay! I averaged 10 minute miles, which is ok. My calves screamed at me the whole time, but boy was it fun. Next week I'll try to push for 5 miles. I ran through water and on gravel, and both made my run that much more fun.

Also, I figured something out about myself this weekend. Here's what I learned...I still have little self control when it comes to food. During the week I do so well. I reserve my dessert for the weekend, and usually that works out perfectly. This weekend was bad though. I ended up making a gluten free cake for a girl in my Sunday School class and ended up eating half of it. One piece would have been perfect. Maybe even two, but not 7.

Today I made cookies for the kids.
And I wasn't even tempted.
Only because I can't have wheat and I made them with regular flour. But I couldn't resist the gluten free cake I made, which makes me sad that I still don't have the will power to eat just one. Maybe I just need more practice.

  1. I have had gluten free cake...it is the best cake I have ever eaten!! We have a mix that I am waiting to make when TONS of people are around because I would eat it all myself!
Keep giving us updates on your running. I have zeroed out my running shoes so they are flat. My calfs burned for a long time too! Keep up the good work!

  2. I'm wondering why more wasn't eaten in Sunday School? How could the kids pass up on all that yumminess?

  3. Yes, cake is tempting in all forms. Good job on the cookies, though. Cookie dough is equally seductive so pat yourself on the back for that one!

PS. I had no idea you couldn't eat gluten! I had to double check the sidebar to see if there were two women named Marci. Nope, just one. Good to know before I came out to DC with all sorts of floury goodness.

  4. Jill, I agree! Gluten free cake is the best!! Too good in fact.

Apis, I made regular brownies for the rest of the class because we had 2 birthdays to celebrate. I only took one piece for the girl in my class, and I gave 8 pieces away to a friend. The rest was left for ME ME ME!! I should have given it all away, but my greed got to me, and I couldn't part with it.

Jenn, the gluten free is very recent, just 3 months ago. It was the end result of a few visits to the doctor. Stinks. I wish you could bring me a bunch of floury goodness.

  5. Marci next time eat a piece and then freeze the rest in portions for you to enjoy later over several days or even weeks.

I love baking and now have two fabulous new ovens that bake wonderfully so I'm wanting to bake a whole lot more. Lately my thing has been banana bread. I keep trying different recipes and then letting the hubby eat the results. I've been trying to cut the sugar and the fat, adding whole wheat to make the breads healthier. Normally I try and only bake though when the extended family or dinner guests are coming over for dinner. I hope that by the end of summer I will be able to bake and eat, that is eat in moderation and small amounts.

Giving up soda, particularly Diet Coke has helped me to develop more self control and will power over all my eating choices.

  6. Marci, maybe you need to individually wrap up those little cakes, stick them in the freezer and take them out one at a time....not one right after the other:-)

  7. Jill how did you zero out your shoes?

  8. Your new shoes are exciting me. When I get better at running, I might just have to look into a pair. I'm bad with food in the house. If it's there, it's in my mouth. I think I've almost gotten rid of all the junk in my house.

  9. Thanks for the tips guys. What if I don't have enough self control to leave the freezer alone? I am not sure I am strong enough yet, but I won't know until I try!

  10. Marci, if you're going for the cake in the freezer, give me a call instead and I'll talk you out of it! :)

  11. I know they make locks for the fridge. Maybe you could invest in one and give your husband the keys. :) Of course if it were me I would probably take a hammer to the lock.

I have the same problem with food around the house. It helps a little if I can't see it but only for a little while.

  12. Marci, I did the same darn thing. My husband's birthday was on Tuesday, and, oh that cake!

Jill, do tell. What is "zeroeing" out shoes and why and how do you do it?

  13. My husband's birthday was yesterday...did you call Mins?? Shame. ;) Fortunately, I hate chocolate cake, so I had, well, nothing. Although my 3 year-old daughter ate a bunch of it before I got the frosting on (my husband was babysitting), I gotta watch that girl! I do have a huge weakness for cookies! So I commend you for using normal flour so as not to be tempted!

  14. Went to an Eagle court of honor with lots of goodies to eat. I did have a cookie but stayed with more of the fruit. Of course some of my strawberries found the chocolate fountain. I am not good at this when I have not had goodies at home for awhile. Shame on me!!!!!
