One ounce
Hi Ladies!
Oh, this is the Valentines Day Challenge! Our last chance to look and feel even more beautiful before the romance of the 14th. I'm starting to plan the romance today and part of it involves a red hot new outfit. Hope you're able to do something special with your sweetheart!
Now onto my new treasure. Look what I found in my basement today: A food scale! Silly me; it's been there for two years, but it was a gift to my husband and intended to help him make German family Christmas cookie recipes. So in my mind I had filed it away in the categories: "not really mine" and "for baking." Interesting how the brain can play tricks on you.
So here's a little food fun. Each of these pictures shows one ounce of the given food: wild rice, chocolate chips, lettuce, shaved ham, and grated cheddar cheese. I was shocked to find out how little an ounce actually is. Shocked, I tell you! Only 1/4 cup of rice, 56 chocolate chips, 4 lettuce leaves, 2 and 3/4 slices of ham and 1/4 cup of cheese.
This challenge is going to be a real eye opener for me with this scale in tow.

This is such a great reminder. I don't actually have a kitchen scale though I do have a small scale I use to weigh yarn that I could probably use. Maybe I'll have to put it in the kitchen for the next little while just to see what it reveals about the amounts of things I am eating.
ReplyDeleteNow if only all those one ounce items were the same number of calories. Chocolate chips, here I come!
ReplyDeleteMan, you are not kidding. I've been using a digital scale for a while, and it can be depressing how little food you get for an ounce, especially when it comes to tasty things like chocolate and grated cheese. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI really need to get myself one of those!
ReplyDeleteCheese is the worst! It's amazing how little cheese you get for the amount of calories.
ReplyDeleteCan I just tell you what a smart post this is?! (meant to say this last night) It's like a cool section in a healthy living book "The Real Cost of Food" or "The Real Skinny on Not-So-Skinny Foods". Now I feel like I'm babbling... but you know I've noticed for a while now, you do have a talent here, something along the lines of graphic design. Just thought you might wanna know.
ReplyDeleteSo apparently my computer is having problems posting and my witty comment didn't make it to the page yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you have found use for the scale...and I hope that T makes those yummy Christmas cookies next year!!!
The scale has been very beneficial for me, especially with meat and cheese.
I need one too! I one at Costco the other day. I just might grab it next time I'm there.
