Mormons are Peculiar People

What you see in this picture is what Mindy is going to be in five days. She is missing in action because she has been traveling and is now preparing to Trek, you know that peculiar thing the Mormons do. I'll be heading out to Colorado to watch her cute girlies and then on to Utah where I hope to trek to some restaurant between Draper and American Fork to have a reunion and salad with you fabulous Healthy Wives out west. Alicia, I'm hoping you'll pick a spot where we can all meet on Thursday 29 July say about 6:30 or 7:00PM. In the mean time leave an encouraging comment for Mindy as she prepares to be a Ma to 8 teens and walk over 30 miles through Wyoming in the middle of July.

  2. Mindy, I'm so excited for you and Matt that you have this opportunity to Trek, just think you'll get just about all your miles for July in for Cats challenge and have an amazing experience at the same time. Can't wait to hear your stories when you get back.

  4. Please, please take a picture and have a great time! This is the beauty of the web and this blog. Bringing friends together. Love it!

Go Mindy! Think of all the calories you'll be burning. Get that iphone pedometer going and tell us how many miles.

  5. I absolutely want to go on a Trek someday. I remember back when the 150th anniversary of the Church's pioneer trek into Salt Lake took place, with groups of people traveling across the U.S., and I remember wishing at the time that I could go do that, but we were broke and had small children, and it just wasn't possible. I thought, "Well, if I'm alive at the 200th anniversary (I'd be 77), maybe I can do that." I hope I'm still in good health at that age. If I can keep up the healthy habits, I might make it that far.

In the mean time, I can do the little treks that people often do around Martin's Cove. But not while anyone is still in diapers, thank you.

If I were Mindy, I'd be packing some "contraband" (i.e. fattening cookies) somewhere in my small baggage, because heaven knows, she'll have no problem burning off the calories. Hah! I hope she has a safe journey.

  6. That date is set: Queen Vee, Dragonfly, Cammy, Jill, Jennifer? Are we all in? Is there any other Utahns here?

  7. Mindy, best of luck on your trek. Lots of great experiences in store I'm sure.

Yes, count me in on the Utah reunion thing. I wish we could fly everyone in for the event. So where are we going? There is a Zupas in Draper, very yummy.

  8. For a moment, it occurred to me that Draper is only 3 hours away, and my Mom lives in American Fork, so she could watch my kids for a few hours on July 29th. But then, I remembered that's the Impossible Week of Summer 2010 for me. There is Girl's Camp, my family reunion, and my husband's family reunion, all in the same week! Pooh! Well, you ladies have a great time, and I'll keep my eyes out for the next HWHL reunion.
    Love, Becky

  10. Bummer Becky! I was going to ask if you Idahos wanted to come, but thought it might be to far of a drive. Sue? Do you live in Idaho Becky?

  11. Best of Luck on the Trek Mindy! Thank you for volunteering your time to take part in this event for the youth. My daughter just finished up Trek and had a great experience. I am grateful to all the couples who volunteered to go. So thanks for your willingness to serve. I know the parents will be grateful and the teenagers will be as well.

  12. Alicia, I live in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Thus the "Becky in Wyo" handle. Sue and I are only two hours apart. She's in Cokeville. I know it could be a ton worse, we could live half a country apart, and I am grateful that she's that close. But it's still too far for me. I wish it was the same town, or at least under an hour, so I could pop back and forth without having to make a big day trip out of it. I know, I know, I sound like a whiner when so many people have it so much worse. But she's so awesome! And I love her!

  13. Blast! I'll miss it by one day! I'm going to be in Utah July 25-28, but I have to be back in Cokeville the afternoon of the 29th to pack up the camper for our reunion. My cousin Josh is coming on Friday morning to be my surrogate male and tow the camper to Bear Lake for me and I have to have everything packed and ready to go by Thursday night. Any chance we could move the dinner back a day, on the 28th, or maybe do brunch on Thursday morning around 10:00?

  14. Sue, I'm game for a brunch. It might be harder for people to find babysitters, but I'm sure I can find someone. I could also do it the night before. I don't know what the other travelers schedules are like. Anyone?

  15. I'll offer my back yard if we want to do a potluck brunch.

  16. I'm in exactly the same boat Sue is in. I could do a Wednesday night dinner, or a Thursday brunch, but I've got to be back to Rock Springs by late Thursday afternoon, to help Zen get everything packed for the reunion, and then to pick Dani up Thursday night from Girl's Camp. I'd love to come and meet everyone!!
