I have started back trying to run after months of slacking and recouping my back injury. So, the good news is, my back feels great, but I think I may be trying to soften the blow to my back and hurting my shins! My heart and lungs feel great when I run, but my darned shins are killing me.
I know a lot of you are runners...what training tips, etc. do you have for me so that I can work through shin splints and keep moving?
I always get shin splints when I start running again after a break. Make sure your shoes aren't worn out. After a while, my body gets strong again and the shin splints go away. Don't know if that helps you any?
ReplyDeleteUmm, alternate days of running with days of swimming, or days of the elliptical. It keeps your heart, lungs, and muscles in shape without the constant pounding on joints, yet you can work up to running every day or every other day.
ReplyDeleteMassage your shins with ice at night. If you freeze ice in a paper cup you can just peel back the cup as the ice melts. I hope it is like Alicia said and just a temporary thing from starting back up at running. Good luck.
ReplyDeletethe other thing that could help is after you do your waling warm-up stop and stretch. You can do ankle circles and put your toe down and stretch forward. I can show you what I'm talking about next time I see you.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry! These are no fun. Just make sure your not landing on your toes. try more for the front part of your foot. Even a flat foot is better then the heal or toes... just an idea. I have put on tight(not too tight) socks during the day and it helps get the blood flowing for healiing
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Great tips girls! Thank you!! I will try them ALL! =)
