Stressed

I am stressed. And when I'm stressed, I make things. No, this post has nothing to do with food, or exercise. I don't like to do laundry, or cleaning, or exercising when I'm stressed. I find those activities tedious and then my mind wanders and obsesses about the stress factor while I'm doing whatever it is. So I create things, or read. I know, I know, I probably should exercise, I guess it's supposed to reduce stress, but it doesn't (at least for me). At least I don't eat, right??

So after reading Mockingjay in less than a day, I made my daughter a skirt (unfortunately in less than a day, so now I have nothing else to do but laundry and floor washing). I also made my up and coming baby a quilt. Here are my bragging pictures:

My nameless baby's quilt

She didn't want her shirt tucked in....

  1. What charming projects, love both of them. That baby quilt is so delightful...love it. Hope that you're feeling a bit less stress, now I must clean my bathrooms another tedious to do.

  2. Can I just say I wish I channeled my stress your way? All I have been doing lately is EATING and I am up 3 lbs to prove it. UGH!!
You are SO TALENTED. I am reading Mocking Jay too... :)

  3. What an amazing quilt, and I LOVE that skirt. I might have to pull my scraps together and attempt something similar for my girls. Sooo cute! I too wish I channeled my stress by completing things. I seem to just be good at starting projects not finishing them. If you ever need some projects to finish just come to my house, I have an entire sewing/craft table full of them. Thanks for sharing, so fun.

  4. I have to agree with everyone. I too wish I handled stress like you. Thanks for sharing that fun project! At least you make stress positive.

  5. Wow. Just WOW. That is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. Seriously. You are very talented in your use of color and shape, a wonderful graphic artist. And the skirt is completely adorable!

Have you considered making quilts to sell? I know the average craft fair probably isn't worth your time. You'd probably be lucky to get $75 for a baby quilt like that. But if you make a snow/skiing scene and take it to some of the boutiques around Park City, you might have some good luck. Just a random thought I had.

  7. Jenn, I'm an idiot. You're not anywhere near Park City! But if it helps to put things in perspective, I can't keep my own kids' names straight.

  8. Love Love Love both of those! That fabric for the quilt is adorable! And sweet Ellie belly is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. She looks so much like Brian, but not like me at all it makes me think that I don't look as much like Brian as I think I do. Can you post a link to the tut for the skirt?

  9. Thanks guys! It's always nice to have an ego booster (especially when you're stressed)!! I've thought about making and selling quilts, but I'm NOT a perfectionist and I think the average person who hasn't ever quilted before would think "Why in tarnation (yeah, I'm from OK, I speak Okie) am I paying x amount for something that's not perfect?" But, I think I might make a few and try it out on etsy or something, see if I could make any money.

    Mindy, here's the link: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/08/strip-pieced-pleated-skirt.html#more

It was easy and fast. In fact, I might make Ellie a Halloween skirt (it's my absolute favorite holiday).
